Earth Day Cleanup Reminder

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Don’t forget that this Saturday OCC will be doing the annual Earth Day Cleanup on Caughdenoy Road. We’ll meet at Jerome’s Fire Apparatus Co., on Caughdenoy about .5 miles north of Hwy 31. The cleanup starts at 9:00 and at 11:00 we’ll have a ride. Before the cleanup John Baker has arranged for coffee, juice, donuts, and breakfast pizza (kindly donated from Wegman’s and Dunkin’ Donuts).

As we have one of the largest Earth Day Cleanups (40 is a typical number), two local dignitaries will be there: Jim Rowley, the Supervisor of the Town of Clay and Nick Pirro, the Onondaga County Executive (he’ll be by at about 10:00 due to a prior commitment). Jim arranges for the dump truck to pick up what we collect (usually more than two loads). Local media is being contacted, so your involvement will be a great way to promote the club.

We’ll also be having a tent sale with club clothing and any items that you wish to sell. Hopefully the weather won’t deter people from coming! As in past years, John Baker has done a great job organizing this event.

Earth Day Cleanup

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

It’s happening at Jerome’s, on Caughdenoy Road, Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 9:00 am, Earth Day. Bring a sweater and rain coat, boots always help, and put on your best OCC-face.

I promise you a RAINY (not a “rose garden”) and cold day! As in the past 5 years, Earth Day promises to be cold and wet. April 21, is only 9 days away, and it look’s like RAIN. No, it’s not going to happen folks; like Ground Hog Day, there will be no shadows cast by a warm spring sun - this is Syracuse after all. But, there will be OCC members cleaning up 5 miles of the most mistreated, abused road in the county. We need your help. I expect, as in the past, I’ll see some of the same OCC faces and a couple of new OCC faces. This year I know some of the the usual members can’t be there so we need more new faces to show up, to spend a couple of hours with us and give a little something back to the community, and to the club. If it were going to be a warm, sunny, and dry day I would expect you to - ride your bike, kayak, hike, spring clean your house, or rake your own lawn? It’s not going to happen! So come on out to Jerome’s Fire Apparatus, for breakfast and coffee, some laughs, a few bad jokes and a warm smile or two on your fellow OCC faces.

Please let me know if you’re coming, it helps to know how much safety equipment to bring and pizza to order. SamSam promises a ride after the clean up at 11:00 am - weather or not!
