Tour August 5-8

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

I thought this might interest people thinking about touring:

—————————————–

The 4th Annual Mass BikePike Tour, a bicycle tour in Massachusetts, is now accepting registrations for this four-day event taking place August 5-8th, 2010. The bike tour will begin and end in Amherst, with daily riding options ranging from 30 to 65 miles.
The Mass BikePike Tour is a celebration of cycling in Massachusetts. Families and individuals who want a move leisurely pace will enjoy ample opportunity to explore the state’s scenic byways, quaint towns, and all the varied attractions the region has to offer. All the routes are hilly, but if you really want to test yourself, we have an option on day 3 to climb Mt. Wachusett which includes a one mile climb at a steady 9% grade to the Visitors Center at the State Park and then a climb up the mountain access road to the summit at 2,000 feet above sea level.

Overnight stops will feature great places to camp (indoor options available) and hardy meals featuring fresh local products. Participants who prefer an alternative to camping can choose to stay close by at local inns or B&Bs
Registered riders will receive maps, route descriptions, lists of local attractions along the route, access to snack stops, SAG support, a commemorative T-shirt, and the camaraderie of friendly folks having a good time.

Proceeds from the event will benefit MassBike, the statewide bicycle advocacy group.

Early discounted registration is available until March 1st, 2010.

2010 Ride Leaders Still Needed

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The sun is out today, the temperatures are finally above freezing and AND only Thirty days until the first “official” club ride.

Thanks to the ten people who have recently signed up online, now we only need two dozen more [or less if you take multiple rides].

Not many people know their exact summer calendar but don’t be shy about precommitting… you can always switch your ride leadership with a fellow club member.

PLZ check in at http://cook.rfe.org/cgi-bin/signup.

Ride Leaders Needed — Sign Up On-Line

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

We’re in the final stretch of putting together the ride schedule for this year. Bob Spear has done a great job of assembling the schedule and the last major task is getting ride leaders for the rides. Many signed up at the banquet, but we still need leaders for about 40 rides. You can do so on-line. If you’ve been at all active, please consider signing up to lead one or more rides.

Banquet Reservations Update

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Well, the reservations and payments are coming in…but I did receive a few emails regarding payment for the banquet. We WILL be accepting payment at the door as long as you have made a reservation. We will be responsible for paying for the number of attendees I give to the DoubleTree by next Tuesday.

Again, the DoubleTree Hotel is located off of Carrier Circle, with cash bar and light snacks at 6:30 followed by a full dinner buffet at 7:30.

It was a huge success last year as our first time at this location, and I’m sure will be as successful again this year!
