- Everyone was ogling the Zipp 808s that were on loan from Paul at Syracuse Bicycle. Deep dish toroidal, dimpled carbon bonded to aluminum clincher rims. Those are the fastest (zippiest?) wheels I have ridden; the deep cross section was not a problem in that strong wind, and way faster than the Blackwells I purchased last year. I MIGHT return the Zipps… Go see Paul and give them a try some week. His reservation list is growing quickly, so get there soon. Paul said he’d give us a killer deal on them! Right, Paul?? Welcome to the TT scene Tammy. Congrats on earning fastest woman last night (34:19). I was fastest last night and posted a season PR, almost 40s faster than my last ride! And that’s on a night when everyone else, except for Steve Wilson, was slower. I didn’t gain 40s in fitness over these last two weeks. It WAS the wheels. Only Larry Comfort and I have yellow boxes for each ride of the season so far. Come on Larry, get on out and keep that yellow streak going. Hmmm, that just doesn’t sound right. Thanks to Andy Ross for staffing the (wrong) turn. I’m pretty sure that didn’t account for the slower times, and to Jim Markert for helping me at the start. Good luck to Young Bill this weekend. I think he left with 4 sets of aero wheels last night! And, he grabbed my helmet, too. And then I overheard him asking to borrow some chamois crème, and he got some Hammer stuff from Rich, some speakers from Gummer, and free car tune up from Baker, and…

- What a gorgeous night for a ride! 32 riders took advantage, including a few first timers, and at least one who has not been out in years! On average, you were all a minute faster and many (17) set season PRs. Some, like Sean Severance, opted to cut it close and improved by a mere 1 s! Chris Read posted a life PR. Way to go Chris! Only three ladies rode. Come on ladies, where did you all go? Anyway, back to the TT. Fastest lady was Laura Kline, also setting a season PR in 26:02. Fastest guy was a little slower this week. Young Bill was probably tired from carrying all of his prizes home after the Tour de Syracuse. But he only tied in the Omnium. Something about letting up at the end figuring he had it won and placed 3rd in the road race by a wheel. What did Eddie Merckx say? Something like ‘no gifts, man, no gifts”? He also wore his free helmet from the kids race giveaway! Despite all that going against him, he still rode 22:44 (26.5 mph).
- May 12, 2009
- Last night, we named our TT series. All riders last night participated in the first Paul Swinburne Time Trial Series, hosted every Tuesday night by the Onondaga Cycling Club. Congrats and thanks for participating! 32 riders rode an average of 46 s faster than their previous ride. 12 of us had season bests last night, too. The conditions were about as good as we’ve seen this year. A strong wind out of the north made for a fast and fun ride back! In case you’re wondering where Lightning Bollt has been, he’s recovering from a broken/dislocated shoulder. He says that he can now tolerate about 3:00 on his TT bike, so we’ll see him in another month or so! Brad, the season fastest so far, has been dethroned! We wish Brad a speedy recovery from his broken collarbone. Young Bill rode a life PR and course record for this season of 22:14 (27 mph!), besting Brad’s 22:38! I think we need to check Bill for EPO! Kate Stewart was fastest lady at 27:49. A great first ride of the season, especially without all the aero gear. Norm finally improved. So much for his going slower streak! Poor Jim Ryan popped a spoke and Steven Rush had a Life PR last night!
- May 05, 2009
- Last week was fun. 25 riders improved an average of 27 s compared to their first ride of the season just 2 weeks prior. All the smart riders skipped the 2nd week ;) Norm Ashbarry, continues his consecutive weeks of Life Worst (LW) efforts. He claims that his new strategy is easier than that of a couple years ago, where he had the longest streak of consecutive weeks of improvement. Fastest rider last Tuesday was Brad Crosby. In case you haven’t heard, Brad went down hard and broke a collar bone last Wednesday. We all wish Brad a speedy recovery and are looking forward to seeing him break his 22:38! Marsha Baldwin claims the Fastest Lady prize with her 30:18 ride. She then went on the lead the Mountain Goat Run on Sunday. Oh, she was still on her bike… The new race to watch this year is between the two youngsters, Young Bill (Golembieski) and newcomer Jake Gorke. Only 20 s separated them last week with their blazing 23:16 and 23:36 efforts respectively. Bill will be spending this summer getting ready to head off to the University of Colorado (Boulder, CO), where he accepted a full scholarship for cycling. Awesome! Thanks to the volunteers Jim ‘hobble’ Markert and Paul Swinburne for helping me at the start, and Ben Donzella and Skip Carr at the turn.
- April 29, 2009
- 46 riders turned up last night for the soggy and windy time trial. Only one rider completed the course. Young Bill Golembieski finished in 23:29, facing nasty winds out of the northwest on the way out, and still flags on the return… So Bill was fastest of the night, slowest, and fastest woman! Thanks to Skip Carr for working the turn, though Bill said he never saw anyone. Nor did I get my sign back. Skip, are you coming next week? Thanks to Mark for keeping me company at the start, and Red and Michelle Delillo for showing up to help.

- This e-mail officially starts the heavy work burden of many club members. First, I imagine Bob Ruth, membership director, sitting in front of his computer, drool dripping out of his mouth onto his poor mouse and keyboard, wife asking when she can use the computer… Bob yells back, “NOT NOW, I’m waiting for the TT results so I can find non-club riders!” Must get those bandits, must get those bandits… Then poor Jim Price… He needs to read through all the fluff just so he can find the volunteers so he can add their points up to qualify for a vest! It is a very nice vest, by the way. I wore mine all winter. Wayne Miner, club pres. Well, this guy reads everything and doesn’t miss a thing. Honest! By the way, Wayne is doing a great job as new club pres. Watch what happens this season. Man, I think I just got some spatter all the way over here. Bob, cool it! Everyone claimed to be a club member this week. This was the very first event where riders were proud to proclaim Life Worst! Four of us claimed that, including yours truly. Norm had and amazingly slow 28:23. I think he dogged it on purpose. He wants to go after that ‘consecutive weeks of improvement’ award. Brad Crosby, aka Turbo, on the other hand, finished the night as fastest dude in a tremendous 22:46. And it’s only April. I can’t wait to see what he does come July! Two ladies showed up, and the faster was the one-legged Laura Kline in 28:23. Her leg cramped up somewhere around mile 1, so she did the last 9ish miles doing a 1 leg drill. Check out her left quad the next time you see her. ;)

- I’m procrastinating – lots of stuff to get done before I leave, so I’m doing this instead! What an amazing night for a TT! I think this is the best night we’ve had in two years, if not three! Not too hot, nor humid, and dead calm conditions made for very fast times including 8 PRs! Lots of interesting stuff to talk about tonight, and for this season in general. 8 riders tried the OCC TT for the first time tonight. Thanks for coming out and we hope to see you back! You have to try to beat tonight’s times. Norm Ashbarry is becoming my hero! He is the only rider to improve on every ride this season, missing only 4 events, and he volunteered on two of those. Norm beat his last ride by 13 s and his streak continues (SC) I think anyone who beats their previous time by a minute (or so) or more deserves a pat on the back. 7 out of the 34 riders get pats tonight. Good job! Erik drove 3 hours tonight, dragging his poor son along so he could see his dad lose FT by 1 s! Oh So Close. Erik’s incredible 22:10, tying his previous best, was one upped (ha, get it?) by Brad Crosby (22:09). And this was Brad’s first TT on this course! What’s next for Brad? Brad’s phenomenal ride earns him fastest on the course this year! Will this hold until the end of the season?? Stay tuned to find out! And you’d think Erik could beat his previous best by 1 s. Go figure! Robyn had fire in her eyes tonight, and that competitive fire made the Greg and Robyn train 20 s faster than last week for the fastest tandem time of 23:38. I think Robyn was also carrying a whip. Nice teamwork. Not far behind was the Luban tandem at 25:20.
- July 10, 2007
- T’was a tad toasty last night, et? Must not have been all that bad since 5 (out of 33) riders set PRs! All in all, our times stayed about the same with a few exceptions. Ben Donzella took more than 3 minutes off last week’s time. Way to recover! And Mary Jo Kiggins took 2 minutes off her last ride! Gee, I wish I could take 2 minutes off my last ride, too! Fastest lady, with 30+ second improvements in each of these last 2 weeks goes to Kate Stewart with a ride time of 25:34. Way to go, more than a minute in 2 weeks. Keep this up and you’ll be under 24:00 in no time. Brian Hahn was the fastest of the night at 22:10, a blazing 27.16 mph! The tandem to beat for the season is Greg and Robyn Low with their 23:58 tonight! Nice job! Thanks to Norm Ashbarry for volunteering at the turn. He showed up ready to ride, skin suit and all, but declined his ride to keep things safe for ya’all at the half way mark. And thanks to Chris Allen for helping me at the finish. We’re all set with volunteers for next week (Dave Baker, Brian Hahn, and Don Healey). I’ll be away on 7/24 and 7/31. Chuck Dominick agreed to take over for me on 7/24, but he’ll need some helpers. And nobody has yet volunteered for 7/31. I’d like to get all the volunteers set before I split, so please dash me off an e-mail if you can help out, otherwise Chuck will drag a few of you out of line, and oh yeah, you’ll volunteer. Don’t mess with Chuck!
- July 03, 2007
- I hope everyone had a happy 4th! Eight riders showed up for their first TT of the year on Tuesday. Hope you come back to beat those times! Not too much exciting at the TT course last week. Norm tied his ride from last week, so we’ll allow his streak to continue (SC). Kurt Allen, Don Healey, and Ray Smith, who also took 3:00 off his prior ride, all set PRs. Nice! Kate Stewart just edged out her teammate and newbie TTer by 9 s. There’s another woman in the mix for FWS now! Anyway, Kate’s time was 26:11. She looked good sporting that new aero helmet, too! Fastest of the night goes to the guy who drove furthest – Erik Bollt, and no, that’s not misspelled! Erik, disappointed that he didn’t break the 22:00 barrier, posted a 22:48. I don’t see anything to be disappointed in that! Andy Ross (maxpowercycling.com) was a mere 8 s slower. There’s a competition brewing here… Maxpowercycling.com had a good turnout this evening. Of the 27 riders, 6 compete on that team. Thanks to the volunteers. Paul Ashbarry and Ben Donzella at the turn. With the brush growing in along the roadside, it’s nice to have two out there. And Mickey Piscitelli, Doug Luke, Jim Szczygiel, Adam Luban and me were at the start/finish. It’s nice to have the kind of support, especially when a bunch of riders come in together.
- June 26, 2007
- Hi speedsters, I’m happy to report that no riders this week were on the List of Shame! Now what will Bob do all this free time?? First, thanks to all the volunteers (Adam, Mark, Red, and Dave, and to Jim who came to help) who helped out Kate with the duties, and even more thanks to Kate for taking over for me. All of your help each week is greatly appreciated. The temp was hovering around 90 last week, and I suspect that kept the number of riders low, only 23 braved the hot and steamy conditions. Fastest time went to Brian Hahn in 22:29, and fastest lady was Amy Kneale in 25:49. They were 6 s and 5 s faster, respectively, from their previous TTs, in which they were each the fastest! What a pair they are! Amy also looked great in Sunday’s paper. What a nice – smile! Norm Ashbarry continues his streak – every TT faster than the last. That’s hard to do! He’s the only regular this season with this accomplishment, and I think there’s some award in it for him if he continues. Let’s all pitch in and buy him a Hammer bar or something J One bad night kept Brian Blake from joining Norm on that elite list, but I think BB is most improved of the season so far, taking 2:00 off his early season times. He’s now consistently under that 25:00 barrier. Keep it up! Don’t feel bad; while you were suffering at Caughdenoy, I was at the Corporate Challenge suffering with you. I completed the 3.5 mile run in 22:41, fast enough to take maybe 150th place!
- June 19, 2007
- Gee whiz, just as perfect as conditions could be for a TT and our times showed it! Eleven season PRs were set tonight. Red took 3 minutes off from last week, Larry Comfort – 2 minutes, and 6 others about 1 minute. In fact, everyone improved, well, except for me, and I’ll get to that later. 5 first timers came out tonight, and I bet they’re glad that they did. Where were the rest of you? Did the weather keep you away? You should never listen to the weather man, he’s wrong more often than me. As I was doing the math at the finish, I’m thinking that Ashbarry is the man to beat tonight. His 23:06 is looking tough, but I think I can do it. Oh, then another rider posts a faster time, one that’s clearly out of my league. After checking and rechecking, yup, that time is right. Dang! Aah, but he’s not yet a club member and on the Bob Ruth List of Shame, so I still have a shot. Oh yeah, and so is Ashbarry! Oh no, (but Bob yells “Oh yes!! Yes!!! Yes!!) Erik gives me his membership form and check! Oh well. A couple others gave me their forms, too, and the rest assured me that their check was in the mail. So, I’ll post your times in good faith! And Erik, welcome to the club! The fastest time was 22:10. Sean, did you see that??? Erik Bollt drives in all the way from Potsdam, NY for these TTs. He said that we are the nicest club around and loves coming to our TTs, so he joined up. Check out his ride the next time he’s back, and ask him to tell you about it. Interesting. Kate Stewart was fastest woman again with her season best 26:47. Adam gets fastest kid time (33:01), a 68 s improvement! Look at Gummer’s times. That’s all I’m saying about him.
- June 05, 2007
- Happy Winds-day to everyone on our last TT even though it was Tuesday! T’was a blustery day and I swear I saw Pooh flying overhead. Not only was it windy, it was cold! One young and foolish rider even showed up sporting a sleeveless tri-skinsuit. Do you attribute that decision to his youth, or because he is a triathlete?? He also brought the largest cheering section I’ve ever seen at these TTs! 8 riders posted pretty crummy performances slowing an average of 51 s. Hopefully, the weather will be better tomorrow night! It was so crummy, ironwoman Laura Kline, who rode to the start to volunteer, was chilled to the bone. Fortunately, Mark Gummer, the kind gentleman that he is, loaned her his jacket, which draped all the way down to her knees (I’ll post pics of that.). Last year, we had a couple teams do the TT. Let’s make that an option for the 1st TT in July. This gives you time to find a teammate and do a little preparing. Two person teams will compete for fastest team. Both riders must finish, the time is counted on the 2nd rider to cross. Here are some interesting teams – Lance and Tracy Stonecipher, the Ashbarry brothers, Laura K and Mark G, MJ and Bob Swizdor, Amy and Hahnmeister, the Dellilos … me and Timmerman (I wouldn’t even have to pull, just try to hang on and I’d be on the fastest team!), Adam and Eddie (sorry Adam, you’ll have to slow down for your old man!), Last Tuesday, I picked up a set of demo Zipp 808s from Syracuse Bicycle. Since it was a little wet Tuesday, I didn’t want to ride those nice wheels, so I volunteered. I rode the course on Wednesday and took 24 s off my lifetime PR! Amazing what 2 grand can do for you! When I’m done with them, make sure to visit Paul and arrange try them out. He’s going to have a tough time getting them back, though ;) I’ll have them there (to show) tomorrow night! Thanks to volunteers last week, Laura Kline, Don Healey, Jeremy and Lauren Burton (turn), Mark Gummer (turn informer), and me. And the times…
- May 29, 2007
- What a night! 38 riders completed the 10.035 mile trek! While some riders improved over their previous time, including 4 PRs, a strong wind on the way out prevented most of us from going faster. Our times stayed the same, improving by a mere 1 s from our prior ride. Anybody notice that our own Laura Kline won the 5 km (19:52) Veterans Memorial Day Run on Monday in Camillus. She set a PR (26:14) by dropping 5 s off her previous ride (was it the slap???) and took home the Fastest Woman trophy last night. Fastest time went to Andy Ross of Maxpowercycling.com with a time of 23:23. That was 26 s slower than his last ride! I told you it was tough out there last night! Fastest Trailer Bike Time goes to Lauren and Jeremy Burton. Lauren claims that her daddy is not fat. She looked cute in her yellow jersey, too! Best Coordinating Outfit goes to Norm Ashbarry. That slick new red/white/black skinsuit was perfectly matched to his bike! That skinsuit also helped him improve his time by 10 s! Was it really aerodynamics, or was he just all happy about the new skinsuit? They sure do make you feel speedy even if you aren’t. I think we should all get matching skinsuits! Thanks to all the volunteers last night, we needed them. At the turn were Jason and Michelle Dellilo and Joe Hradil, while Kate Stewart and Brian Goetke got our times. They only missed one, so Bill Deyle, let me know your time or who you finished with.
- May 22, 2007
- Interesting night at the TT last night. The wind seemed to really be a bother in both directions. This showed up in our times, we only improved by 12 s average over our prior ride.5 PRs were set, though. Of the 28 riders, Joe Weidenbeck stands out with his big 1:40 improvement! We had 5 brand new riders last night, and Monique showed up without Robin – a very rare sight. We wish Robin’s dog well. We have yet a new fastest woman of the night, hmmm, that just doesn’t sound right… Marcia Baldwin rode an impressive PR 29:09. Fastest time of the night goes to me… 23:33. I finally figured out the formula for achieving that – a bottle of Gatorade with an extra pinch of sea salt and a ½ pinch of salt substitute (potassium chloride). Oh, and have Brian Hahn volunteer and get Jason Dellilo to work out of town. Ok, so it’s not the Gatorade after all – just get rid of the fast guys! Paul Ashbarry rode the exact same time as last week 24:00, and Red played the lottery with her 33:33. Thanks to our volunteers – Brian Hahn and Ben Donzella at the start, and Jim Markert at the turn. Anybody want to volunteer for next week?? In case you haven’t heard, there’s a race this weekend and we’re still looking for volunteers for that! Please let us (Marcello, Jochen, Bill Goffe, Doug Taylor, me) what you’d like to do to help out our club.
- May 15, 2007
- It seemed like a blustery evening, but your times surely didn’t show it with an average decrease of 40s and 3 PRs set! Largest improvement was John Evans, erasing more than 5 minutes! Ok, so he rode his previous TT on his hybrid. So the real improvement was accomplished by Dave Baker – almost 2 minutes! Awesome!! Nice new rig, too! The women’s race is starting to heat up! Amy Kneale took FWT in her first club TT of the year, edging last week’s FW by 25 s! Nice! I expect this to be a fierce competition and very fun to watch this year. These time differences will surely tighten up! Brian Hahn, in his first club TT of the year, took fastest time in 22:35. This is also the fastest time of the year posted by any rider. Also breaking the 23:00 barrier were Jason Dellilo and Andy Ross, formerly Andy Foss. Thanks to our volunteers last night: Mark Gummer at the turn and flat picker upper (Mark Mense flatted), and Chris Read and me at the start accompanied by Emma!! Volunteers for next week are Jim Markert at the turn, and Ben Donzella and Brian Hahn at the start. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll try to borrow Brian’s wheels and see if some of that speed rubs off on me! I think I’d rather have his fitness, though!
- May 08, 2007
- What a great night for a TT, and our times showed it! Warm, tailwind at the start… 35 riders showed up, 12 for their first TT of the year, and the rest of us improved by 66 s from out previous TT! Check out the improvements on Norm Ashbarry, Larry Prill, and Ray Smith! 3 set PRs. Fastest woman of the night was OCC TT newbie Laura Kline in a time of 27:00. Kate, not far behind at 27:41 was incorrectly announced as FW though. It’s easy to make that mistake though. In her 13 TT completions last season, Kate was FW on 9 of those occasions, took the fastest woman of the season award, and then went on to take FW in the first TT of this season to again show her dominant form. Fastest Kid Time (FKT) goes to Adam Luban (33:39) averaging nearly 18 mph. Not too shabby for an 11 year old! Must be the genetics. I don’t know, though, I never met his Mom ;) The planets were aligned – some fast riders didn’t show up, the Mountain Goat had depleted others, so I got fastest time (first time ever for that) and a PR with a time of 23:29. Mike Griffin (26:36) and Doug Roik (29:03) also set PRs last night! Great riding guys! It must be the graffiti spray painted on the road. Thanks to our volunteers last night – Paul Swinburne, Joe Hradil, and Michelle Dellilo at the start, and Dave Baker at the turn.
- May 01, 2007
- I hope this finds you all well. 15 riders showed up yesterday for dead calm conditions, even if it was a bit nippy. 8 also rode last week. Those 8 riders improved by 24s on average. That’s not bad considering that Baker, almost a minute slower last night, took his road bike for a spin instead of that fancy schmancy new TT bike he sported last week. How’s that for making the TT news, Dave?? We were all admiring Jason’s new skinsuit, it’s very pretty. Jason was also fastest of the night at 23:10, but 6 s slower than last week. Maybe that’s because Norm wasn’t there to get him all fired up…. Fastest woman was… Oh, no ladies rode last night! So I guess Red was fastest to the turn and back! Thanks to Kate S, Michele D, and me at the start, and Red and Don Healey at the turn. Volunteers for next week are Paul, Dave, and Michelle.
- April 24, 2007
- As you can probably tell by the tardiness of this e-mail, I’ve been pretty darn busy. Last week, we faced a pretty brisk wind out of the N-NW, which made the return trip a tad bit faster! 27 riders showed up for the first TT of the year! Jason Dellilo showed good early season form and took fastest time with a 23:04. Or maybe that smooch that Norm got just got Jbird all fired up??? Hmmmm. Listen, Michelle, didn’t your elementary school teacher ever tell you to bring some for everybody or don’t bring any?? Well, I think you should remember that rule this week and bring some for everybody! Gee, didn’t seem to help Norm though. Oh well. Kate took over where she left off last year – by earning the Fastest Woman! Great job!! Thanks to the volunteers last week – Adam and Eddie Luban, and Larry Comfort at the start, and Bill Deyle at the turn. Volunteers up for this week are Red Donzella and me at the start, and Don Healey at the turn. Remember to bring your raincoats.
- September 12, 2006
- Officially the last official TT as officially declared by ME!! And that's official!!!
- September 05, 2006
- 30 riders tonight!
- August 29, 2006
- What a glorious night for a TT. Cool temps and calm conditions helped the group improve their previous times by 23 s while 3 PRs were set. What an interesting night with riders making some very high tech changes and about as low tech as you can get! Kate was sporting a brand new time trial helmet. Spending about $1.17, she converted her regular helmet into one of those sleek aero TT helmets with the addition of a dollar store plastic place mat and $0.09 worth of duct tape. This bought her an 8 s improvement from last week. Not enough to catch Amy, though we were cheering loudly for her. She did earn fastest woman of the night, though. That's always a nice prize. Thank you to volunteers Adam Luban, and the Ashbarry brothers for timing, and me at the turn. Many people thanked me while turning last night. If you have enough breath to thank me, then you're not riding hard enough! The best way to thank the volunteers is to ride as hard as you can and set some PRs! Really!
- August 22, 2006
- Thanks to the volunteers - Jim at the turn, Paul Ashbarry and Kathy Clark were timing, and Derek Perry swept the course. Thanks for all your efforts. It's the support that make these so fun to ride and easy to run! We had our first recumbant of the year. A new category... FRT? Amy Kneale has taken the FWT of the year from Kate.Stewart by a mere 3 s. Come on Kate, we're cheering for you. But what you don't know is that we're also cheering for Amy. We'd love to see both of you improve your times and break into that 25 minute arena. Dan Timmerman has set the standard (but he's not a club member... yet), sorry Sean, you're slow as molasses! Dan slowed by 2 s last week though, so maybe there's hope... Of the 33 riders, 3 TTd for the first time, this year anyway, and 3 set PRs. Nice work. As a group, we were faster by 19s! I think Dan had something to do with that, right Jason??
- August 15, 2006
- Thanks Eric! And thanks to volunteers Mark, Scott, and Jim.
- August 08, 2006
- A beautiful breezy evening for TT, 38 riders showed up, including 9 newbies! We erased an average of 27 s from our previous times! Good job. Thanks to volunteers Jeff Grover at the turn, and Rich O'Neil and Amy Kneale with the times.
- August 01, 2006
- T'was a hot one and one PR! Good job Jim. Thanks to Ben Donzella at the turn and Red Donzella and Sam with the times.
- July 25, 2006
- Many thanks to Kate and her cast of volunteers for filling in for me! 22 riders showed up. Did you get rained on? We were hit by a brief thunderstorm on campus but were treated to gorgeous double rainbow following the storm.
- July 18, 2006
- Out of 30 riders, 2 set PRs! A new category, Fastest Kid Time (FKT), is owned by Adam Luban this evening.
- July 04, 2006
- Happy 4th of July! 10 losers didn't have picnics to attend, so we came out to suffer, instead.
- June 27, 2006
- Wind and rain kept the turnout light, but Larry seems to love these conditions erasing 47 s from his previous time.
- June 20, 2006
- 30 riders, 2 PRs, and the first appearance of Lance. Stonecipher, that is! Another mountain biker turning roadie! Guest: Laura Bowles 27:45
- June 13, 2006
- Not many finishers as one of us went down because a car failed to yield. We all with Ben a speedy recovery!
- June 06, 2006
- Near perfect conditions last night brought out 41 riders, 7 of whom set PRs! Excellent work as the field as a whole removed an average of 43 seconds from their prior ride. Leading that category was PR setter Red Donzella, removing more than 4 1/2 minutes! I think you gave all that time to Robin. Brian Hahn in his first TT of the season finished 2nd to Sean by 42 s. The time was calculated wrong last night and the two appeared to be much closer. Amy Kneale who is tearing up all the races finally completed a TT in an impressive time for her first go at it. Fastest time is Sean Tompkins again, big surprise! Fastest woman is MJ Swizdor. She is the woman to beat so far this year. We will start at 6:30 next week to let both the traffic and wind calm down. Remember to yell (or gasp) your number as you cross the finish line. It's difficult to see who you are, and even more difficult if we don't know you. Thanks to volunteers Mary Jo Kiggins and Larry Comfort for timing, and Matt Howey and Mark Gummer at the turn. Volunteers for next week are Justus Derx, Paul Kocher, and Jeremy and Lauren Burton. Whoever takes the turn, please make sure your car is parked off the road as much as possible and far enough from the turn that it doesn't cause any traffic congestion.
- May 30, 2006
- What an amazing evening for a TT. The temperature was perfect. This is not just my opinion - your times show this as well! We started with a wind out of the north that shifted to one from the east. Of the 29 riders who showed up, 4 rode for the first time, and 4 set PRs. Mark Gummer posted a time identical to his last ride! How'd you do that?? Jim Price and Bob Burton were slower than their last ride by a mere 1 s. Biggest speeder upper of the night was last week's biggest loser! Robin Cottrell picked up more than 5:30! She must have been dogging it last week! The average rider cut 80 s off his/her time from their previous ride. Excellent job, ya'all! Thanks to the volunteers, especially Mickey Piscatelli. She drove out to Eric's broken glass report and swept that up. Our beautiful road that we worked so hard to clean on Earth Day, was littered by a broken bottle on the shoulder and road surfaces. A most excellent job was done by Red at the turn, and timers Mickey and Dan 'the Greek'. Instituted this week was a new volunteer position - the holder. Thanks to Ginny for the hold at the start. Hey, if the TdF riders get a hold, why can't we? Amy Kneale grudgingly made her first appearance at the TT. A few moments before her start, we heard a faint phwewoosh. As she clipped in, Mickey noticed Amy's flat front tire. Coincidence or planned? I'll let you decide. Make sure you rib on her tonight! Kate Stewart posted the fastest woman's time of 26:51. That's two weeks in a row! Excellent work! Fastest time trailer bike (no, not a tandem) goes to Jeremy Burton at 30:11. Matt Howey continues to ride without aerobars. What's next, sneakers?? Sean Tomkins posted the fastest time of 21:43, an amazing 27.6 mph and slashing 65 s off his last ride! Will we see 28 mph next week? 30 mph by the end of the season?? Go, Sean, go!

>>--From John Baker-->> ..... Volunteers, you did our club, community and county proud. You did a spectacular job cleaning up - three dump truck loads of trash and debris. Thank you Town of Clay Superintendent, Mark Rupprecht for your continued support and for arranging the pick up of all the debris, Thank your crew for us, they did a great job. Thanks to; Burger King, of Baldwinsville for drinks and cups. Dunkin Donuts, of Baldwinsville for coffee and donuts. Niagara Mohawk for loaning Onondaga Cycling Club the safety equipment (cones, flags and vests) to keep our people safe. Wegmans, on Rt. 31 for the breakfast pizza. These companies have supported OCC in their efforts for four years. Special thanks to Jerome?s Fire Apparatus for their continued support. For opening up their building so we could use the rest room and for allowing us to set up our table inside, out of the cold and rain during this event. Also, for allowing us to park there during this event and for the many years we?ve parked there for time trials.<<

- What a wet night! An appropriate ending to our time trial season. Hurricane, drenching weather. 36 brave souls showed up, hoping to get one last TT in for the season and to beat Mother Nature. Mother Nature kicked their asses. There is always next season... Thank you to our volunteers: Kevin Gleason, Scott Schaffer, Jim S., and Mike Mansfield. A very special thank you to Christy Saint who was a tremendous help throughout the whole season keeping times. She is the Queen of timing! When Christy is at the stopwatch you can be assured your times are accurate. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make this a successful TT season. Volunteers make it happen. A reminder that we need a TT director for next year. Also, hope everyone can make it to the post-season TT party on September 25. If you did not get directions from me, send me an email or give me a call. 689-6139. Anyone who participated in the TT's this year is invited, riders and volunteers. Bring your family as well, see you then. Mary (now known as the "former TT director")
- August 31, 2004
- A bit windy last night, but 30 riders and some showed some pretty good times despite the wind. We had 3 new faces last night as well, always good to see new people trying our "suffer-fest". Thank you to our volunteers last night: Ben Donzella, Dale Robson, Mary Madonna, and Mike Mansfield.
- August 24, 2004
- Another great night for time trials. The highlight of the evening was a classic cruiser, a sweet ride if I ever saw one. Dave Shubsda had his dad's cruiser for the TT ride. It must have weighed at least 40 pounds! It even had the headlight. It truly is a beauty. Thank you to our voluteers last night: Larry, Ginny, Christy, and Jason.
- August 17, 2004
- An excellent night for the time trial. A number of PR's. 39 riders. A couple of the times were wrong, including my own. I checked them over again, because some of you came up to me last night and we did the math again. Remember this is done by volunteers who try to get you the times quickly and sometimes mistakes are made, so do not hesitate to let me know if you see a problem. I think they are all OK now. THANK YOU to our volunteers last night: Ginny Burton, Larry Comfort, Dave Ressiguie, and Ann Stummer.
- August 10, 2004
- We managed to stay dry for the time trial, it did not rain until we were all back at the parking lot. 31 riders showed up despite the "severe weather" storm warnings. You got to love the dedication of the time trialists. We had a number of new riders last night and the volunteers did their best to get the times. There was some confusion with a couple but I think we figured it out. Thank you to last night's volunteers: Jim Szczygiel, Eric Flanders, and Jim Price.
- August 03, 2004
- A decent night to ride, well no rain anyway. A nice headwind going out that was a great tailwind returning. 18 riders and a couple of PR's even. Thank you to our volunteers for the night: Katina Sayers, David Shubsda, and Ben Donzella. Also Tom Karr who stepped in and helped David record times. Make note of Ryan Karr's time. The guy is only 13 years old! I hope he keeps riding, he will certainly be fun to watch as he improves. Note to riders: Ryan's dad helped with times this week, I welcome anyone who wants to bring a family member to help out if they would like to watch the TT. Just send me a note or just show up.

- A little wet and windy for the TT, but still had some diehard riders. Thanks to Paul S, Anne S, Ellen L, Eric F for helping out and holding the umbrellas for us. AN IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM THE TT DIRECTOR: Please, please be very aware of where you are in the road as you are coming to the finish line. The timers are in the grass so that you have the shoulder of the road instead of being in the middle of the road. ALSO, in the more wet and therefore slippery conditions BE CAREFUL on the RR tracks. Two riders went down last night. Fortunately they are okay, but one did do damage to their bike, the other saved the bike but scraped some skin. Stay tuned for the availability of the TT volunteer sign up sheet on the OCC website. Thanks and ride smart and safe!!

- June 04, 2002
- The sky was cloudy and a slight breeze was blowing but rain held off at the TT last night. Though, there was the incident with the train crossing just as everyone was finishing, just some bad timing! There were even 3 more PRs last night. - May 14, 2002
- It was a dark and stormy night. (Okay, so not that dark per se but it definitely seemed stormy.) On the northeastern side of the city two brave souls ventured out into the ever darkening evening riding their trusty steeds. Dressed in their colorful riding garb, barely recognizable, they mounted and headed out for a most treterous ride down Caughdenoy Road. One, ready for a stand-off with mother nature, in deep determination to get this over with, headed out. The other looking like he may have some doubts, heads out, though not able to get his steed going quite as fast as he would like due to some problem with the wrong type of shoes. Oh, what a plite to start off in! Little sprinkles of rain started to get larger, then harder, coming faster and faster making it impossible to stand being out in the elements. Then the hail came, making the road seem even that much more dangerous and the plite of these two souls became more and more doubtful. Would they make it to the end? Would they even make it far enough to turn around to head home? We waited ever so fearfully for these two brave men, to seeif they would in the end conquor mother nature and her torential assault on their ride or would we find them washed away in the river?
Phew, they are finally in site, bringing with them a spray of rain and road spray. Drenched to the bone, these two diehard extremists managed to not only beat the elements but to do so with a hint of smile of victory!
Well, the drama seemed appropriate for the two riders who dared to ride the Time Trial last night. Tempted to call it off, there was a break in the weather on this side of the city shortly before 6 p.m. and so Paul and I went to Jerome's to see if anyone was crazy enough to show up and sure enough, there were two, and they only added about a minute to their time from their first TT this year. The weather did end up taking a turn for the worst, and we even did see some hail bouncing off the road!
Thanks to Paul A, Eric W and Skip C for helping out. We could use two volunteers for next week. If your interested please let me or Paul A. (625-1065) know. Hopefully the sun will be out by then. Thanks!
- May 07, 2002
- The weather managed to hold off last night, even saw a bit of sunshine coming from somewhere in the distance, though the wind didn't seem to want to die down at all. 10 riders total, including one new rider. There was an adjustment in a few of the times due to a mix up at the turn around. Thanks to Dave R and Paul A for helping out.
- April 30, 2002
- We had 7 riders out for the first TT of 2002. The rain held off and we actually had a little bit of sunshine, though a pretty chilly wind.
