Various members have expressed an interest to me in something more organized than our usual Wednesday night rides. I agree, but the devil is in the details.

First is the issue of what people want. I can imagine some instructions on techniques, such as bump drills, cornering, and pacelines. Some have wanted smaller groups with regrouping at the top of hills. There could also be instructions on race tactics. Second is the issue of who the instructor or instructors might be (now may be your chance to volunteer!). Third is when we might do it.

As an aside, when I was in California riding in January, I did a ride with a local race club and it was quite interesting as they largely did drills. In one segment, everyone spun on parts of a long hill at no more than 80% of their max heart rate. The spinning was to aid neuromuscular skills and the max heart rate limit was to help build a base. In another segment they did a TT of sorts. In only one place did they ride with “abandon,” it was called “anarchy”. http://www.cyclo-vets.org/trainingridesracessunday1.html has the details. Interestingly, they have both a ride leader and a “ride coach” (USCF certified, it turns out). While not on that ride, I also took part in bump drills and a cornering clinic.

Any and all thoughts, suggestions, and comments are greatly appreciated.
