If you’re interested in riding with us, here are some steps you can can take:

  • Please check what kind of ride you might be interested in; we offer a number of different types. As you might guess, they vary by the season and the day of the week.
  • Next, check our ride calendar. Each entry lists the “ride leader” (they handle administrative details for rides, like the sign-in sheets, describing road conditions, and the like). It would be a good idea to contact them and make sure that the ride is a good fit for you. Please note that unlike some clubs, we typically have a wide range of riders on all of our rides, so chances are there is someone for you to ride with.
  • Once you’ve figured out what ride you’d like to come to, you can use our map of ride starting locations to find the start of the ride. All our ride starting locations have an abbreviation (like Aub for Auburn and B-ville for Baldwinsville) and attached to that we have a ride number (thus, Aub-1 and B-ville-2).
  • If that location isn’t convenient for you (our ride starts range across Central New York), you might check the ride calendar for a later ride that is closer to you. Unlike many clubs, we have dozens of starting locations and even more rides (in fact, we rarely repeat a ride during the year!).
  • At the ride start (do note that we start riding promptly at the scheduled time, so be sure to arrive with time to spare), please ask around for the ride leader. As above, they handle administrative details for rides: the sign-in sheets, announcing road conditions, asking riders who will be riding the various distances, introducing guests and new members, and checking to be sure that all riders have returned. Thus, on the last point, please be sure to sign back in on the guest form.
  • After signing in as a guest, you might ask the ride leader to point out riders of similar abilities. Again, unlike some clubs, we have riders of different abilities and interests on the same ride.
  • Do be sure to get a copy of the map and cues (offered on all our rides) or download the route to your GPS-enabled bike computer or smartphone app.
  • Often our rides start out as one group and then separate into groups of different speeds. If the group you select is too fast, simply slow down as a slower group is likely behind you and will soon catch up.
  • Helmets are required on all OCC rides and traffic laws are obeyed.
  • Guests are welcome on all rides. We ask that if you enjoy riding with us and wish to come more than once, you please join the club.
