This Saturday 7/25, OCC will continue with its annual tradition of the Highland Forest ride and picnic that follows. Also, as in the past, we’ll have a table or two for our bike swap-meet. So if you have extra parts or swag you’d like to sell, trade, or pass on, bring them along – your old stuff might be just what somebody else needs to fix or complete a bike.
The fun will begin at 10:00 AM and like previous years we’re using the Torbet Shelter. The shelter is located above the main parking lot across from the old office, which is a few hundred yards beyond the turn for the new Skyline Lodge – simply stay on the main park road. There is NO parking fee as it is included in the shelter rental, which is paid for by the club.
The Saturday morning club ride will leave from the lower parking lot at the foot of the sledding hill and should return in time for lunch. For those so inclined, bring your mountain bikes as well as there are both great trails to ride and the opportunity to pre-ride the race course used in next week’s 2009 Highland Forest Classic.
Riders are asked to bring a dish to pass. Soda and hot dogs are provided the club. Some like to bring a “special something” to grill for themselves (charcoal and a hot grill available). Since there will be extra food and drink come on up the hill and relax with your friends after the ride even if you don’t pack your own food.
The the day’s events are a great opportunity to socialize in a different venue (not on two wheels!) followed by further indulgence in delicious food, camaraderie and simply a good time had by all.
Last year’s turnout was great so be sure to join us for this year’s fun.
