The Ride for Alive!Alive! Foundation was formed in January 2012 by Michael and Julia Wamp to promote cancer survivorship. In 2005, Julia, then the mother of three children under three, was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through 9 months of surgeries and treatment. In March of 2006, with her surgeries and treatments finally over, What was next? Back to living a normal life? Once you have been diagnosed with cancer there is a new normal. How do I get back to feeling my best after 4 months of chemotherapy, 6 weeks of radiation and several surgeries? How do I do everything in my power to guarantee that the cancer doesn’t return and that I am here to see my children grow up? How do I overcome the fear of living with a cancer diagnosis and it possibly returning? Those were all questions that Julia asked and that many other cancer survivors ask with little or no direction.

Alive! Foundation was created to educate and empower cancer survivors to live healthier, happier lives. Alive! will develop and fund programs in local communities that will help cancer survivors to live well by focusing on movement, exercise, and nutrition while promoting cancer survivorship nationwide. In the U.S. alone, there are more than 12 million cancer survivors, up from 3 million just twenty years ago. By 2020, the National Cancer Institute expects this number to increase to more than 20 million. The healthcare industry has greatly improved their survival success rate through improvements in detection and treatment, but lost in the shuffle is helping these survivors cope with life after cancer.

Join us in our efforts by committing to participate in our first annual fundraiser the Ride for Alive! on July 14, 2012. Participants can choose 10, 25, 50 and 100 mile distance and cycle around some of the most beautiful lakes in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Your commitment to this ride and fundraising for this event will benefit the programs of the Alive! Foundation in your communities. It is our goal to reach as many cancer survivors as possible.

Let’s peddle towards cancer survivorship. Ride for Alive! is a non-competitive ride for cyclists who are committed to cancer survivorship. Ride as an individual, start a team, join a team or sign up to volunteer, but either way it is sure to be a fantastic experience and memorable event.
